One of Cape Town’s largest townships, Mitchell’s Plain is located roughly 32 kilometers from Cape Town’s City Centre.  One of several areas developed in the 1970s by the former apartheid government, Mitchell’s Plain was designed to accommodate “coloured” families who were forcibly removed from their homes and communities with the implementation of policies that forced racial segregation. Today, Mitchell’s Plain is home to an estimated 700,000 residents and is plagued by chronically high levels of unemployment and poverty
